Toronto, which defeated Kansas City in two consecutive games following a 5-4 win the previous day (9th), recorded 79 wins and 63 losses on the season, tying with the Seattle Mariners, who lost to the Tampa Bay Rays that day, and tied for second place in the American League Wild Card.

The main players who led Toronto to victory were starting pitcher Gausman and leadoff Springer.

Gausman threw 105 pitches in 8 innings and held the Kansas City batting line tight, allowing 2 hits (1 home run), 1 walk, 10 strikeouts, and 1 run. Gausman, who pitched 8 innings for the third time in the season, posted his 11th win (8 losses) of the season.

Springer also hit hard with 3 hits in 4 at-bats (2 home runs), 4 RBIs, and 2 runs. Springer, who recorded his 18th and 19th arches of the season, left only 1 home run in 20 home runs for 3 consecutive seasons.

Toronto took the lead with Springer’s solo shot in the bottom of the fourth inning. In the bottom of the 4th inning, Springer attacked Kansas City’s second pitcher, Zack Greinke, with a slider driven into the middle and went over the left wall.

Gausman hit a tying run by Edward Olivares in the top of the fifth, but Toronto immediately took the lead again in the bottom of the fifth. When Springer hit a timely hit on second and third base with two outs, two men were called home.

Afterwards, Toronto ran away with a 5-1 lead thanks to Cavan Biggio’s RBI double in the bottom of the 6th and Springer’s 1-run home run in the bottom of the 7th.

Greinke, who became the losing pitcher after allowing 6 hits (1 home run), 1 walk, and 4 runs in 3⅔ innings, suffered his 15th loss (1 win) of the season.

Toronto aims for a three-game sweep with starting pitcher Jose Berrios in the game against Kansas City on the 11th.
