The Braves announced on the 26th (Korean time) that they had agreed to a two-year contract with Johnson.
The size of the contract was also disclosed. The total guaranteed amount is $14.25 million (KRW 19.2945 billion).
He receives an annual salary of $7 million for the 2024 and 2025 seasons, and includes a $7 million team option for the 2026 season. The buyout paid to the player if the club rejects the team option included $250,000.
Johnson also agreed to donate 1% of his salary to the Atlanta Braves Foundation.
Johnson was selected by the Chicago Cubs with the 43rd pick in the first round of the 2012 draft.
He debuted in the big leagues with the Cubs in 2017, and appeared in 207 games for five teams over six seasons, recording 12 wins, 15 losses, and an ERA of 4.04.
This season, he appeared in 43 games and pitched 39 innings for the Colorado Rockies, recording an ERA of 6.00, WHIP of 1.846, 1.6 home runs per 9 innings, 5.8 walks, and 13.4 strikeouts. He recorded 4 holds and 13 saves in 19 save situations.
He moved to Atlanta through a trade on July 24th. Atlanta acquired him in exchange for two players, Victor Bodnick and Tanner Gordon.
This recruitment was ultimately a huge success. He pitched 23 2/3 innings in 24 games, posting a 0.76 ERA, 0.887 WHIP, 1.1 home runs per 9 innings, 1.9 walks, and 12.2 strikeouts.
As a result of his performance, he was guaranteed a multi-year contract. With this contract, Johnson takes over the remaining salary adjustments.
If the team option is exercised, it will delay his eligibility for free agency by a year.
